Left Hand Water District Service Lines Classified as “Non-Lead”
In 2021, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced updates to drinking water regulations requiring water systems to investigate the materials of water service lines in their system and develop a comprehensive service line inventory by October 16, 2024. To comply with this regulation, Left Hand Water District (District), at the direction of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), began an in-depth investigation of its water lines to include:
A review of available historical records related to existing water lines
Verifying pipe material for service lines in representative parts of the District
Creating an updated inventory of all District water service lines
Decades of sampling and testing for lead in District water have been below regulatory limits
Submitting findings to CDPHE on September 20, 2024
Left Hand Water District’s water service line investigation resulted in a “non-lead” classification for all service lines in our potable water distribution system. The figure below shows how a household might commonly be connected to District water mains and potential sources of lead-containing fixtures or lead service lines.
